Exhibition Summary
Himalaya – Changing Landscapes photo exhibition visually demonstrates how climate change and glacial melting are affecting the highest mountain range in the world – the Himalayas. The “before and after” panorama photos show us how these mighty but vulnerable landscapes have changed in just a few decades.

The exhibition aims to raise awareness of the impact of climate change, and the new challenges the mountain people are facing. The photographs of mountains and glaciers are accompanied by photographs of the Himalayan people and their stories, as well as photographs of the 1950s scientific research teams conducting glacier studies.

News: Kathmandu exhibition 2 – 8 December 2008
The Himalaya – Changing Landscapes photo exhibition is coming home to Kathmandu as part of ICIMOD’s 25th anniversary celebrations. This is the second time these photos will be exhibited in Nepal. Our journey started in April 2008 when the exhibition was shown in a small format at the Everest Base Camp. At an altitude of 5300m, the exhibition, under the title ‘ 50 Years of Change – Glaciers, Landscapes, People and Resilience in the Mount Everest Region, Nepal’, was the highest in the world.

This time we have chosen a historic site for the week-long outdoor exhibition. Altogether 16 large photo panels will be located at the Hanuman Dhoka temple complex in Kathmandu Durbar Square. The exhibition will be open daily from 2-8 December from 10 am to 5pm. The format of the exhibition follows our successful events in Stockholm (August 2008) and Barcelona (October 2008) showing repeat mountain panoramas, photos of the 1950s teams conducting glacial research, and portraits of Himalayan people. Entrance is free to all, and ICIMOD will have an information point on site distributing information on environmental issues in the Himalayan region, especially those related to climate change and glacier melting. Everyone is warmly welcome.
